Peter Mooney

“I could be a singer,” says Peter, as he demonstrates his singing voice to friends at the SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc. annual picnic.

Peter Mooney is a man in his early 50s with developmental disabilities whose family has taken advantage of the guardianship service offered by SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc.

SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc. is Peter’s co-guardian along with his family who continues to be very involved in Peter’s life and care.  In planning for the future, his family decided that there should be someone there for their son on a day-to-day basis, especially when they are gone.

Darlene Lopez, his caseworker, is becoming more involved in Peter’s life.

“I fell in love with Peter and his personality and charm many years ago when I first started visiting other clients at the group home” said Darlene.

As his caseworker, Darlene takes care of his bills, handles any insurance issues, monitors his needs at the group home, and attends meetings and appointments as necessary. She also watches over his recreational needs.

“SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc. is wonderful!” exclaimed Peter’s father, Frank Mooney. “It’s one of the best things that happened around here. I now have peace of mind that when I am no longer able to act as guardian for my son that SCARC Guardianship Services, along with my daughter and sons, will be there for him and make sure that he is well taken care of.”

Peter’s group home is located in Newton, where he has been involved in several jobs and activities over the years. He likes to attend church, where he gets to do what he believes he is best at, singing.

“Darlene always does a great job looking out for Peter’s best interest, and we are so fortunate that we live so close to Peter,” states Marianne Mooney, Peter’s sister. “SCARC Guardianship Services is one of the best programs around.”
