In empowering others, we empower ourselves. In improving opportunity, we lift each other up. Through impacting lives, we honor the humanity that unites us all.
Supporting Families. Empowering Lives.
At SCARC Guardianship Services, we believe every person deserves the right to make choices, pursue dreams, and live a life filled with dignity and independence. For adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, that journey is often strengthened by the love and support of family members who understand their hopes and needs.
SCARC Guardianship Services Pro Se Legal Advocacy Program was created to empower families to take an active role in their loved one’s future. Through this program, parents and family members can become legal guardians without the additional cost of hiring an attorney, ensuring their loved one continues to be supported by those who know them best.
What ‘Pro Se’ Means
Pro se is a Latin phrase meaning ‘for oneself’ and is used as a legal term to describe representing oneself in the judicial system. In the guardianship process, this means the person who files the legal proceedings for guardianship (usually the parent or family member), also known as the plaintiff, will petition the court without hiring an attorney, guided every step of the way by our experienced and compassionate staff.
